Did you know the sugar plantation covered the area bounded by Heeb Street, Slatyer Avenue, Benowa Road along the Nerang River frontage?
The sugar mill was on the Nerang river at the end of Campbell street Sorento.
News in Brief:
The council installed Bus parking only sign outside our main entrance.
The Museum was granted finance from the Gambling Community Benefit Fund Grant to purchase I.T. equipment for cataloguing.
A Council engineer inspected our buildings, all buildings passed with flying colors, although we need to install smoke detectors and fire extinguishers.
The Museum now has a phone for all business. In the past there were many numbers for contacting the Museum now there is one 0490 487 586.
The web site is in final stages of development.
Visitors numbers this month 102 Volunteers worked 441 hours this month
Council rangers removed the Ibis nests, so far, the Ibis have not tried to rebuild, the council rangers will regularly check, ensuring the nests are not rebuilt.
Volunteers are needed to help with:
The printing press which was donated by St Hilda’s school was manufactured by the “ARAB” company in early 1900’s. The Beenleigh printing museum has a volunteer who is willing to train someone from our Museum how to work the printer. (is there anyone interested in printing)
We welcome interested members with a bit of extra time on their hands to help out with cataloging, gardening, cleaning, equipment restoration and other Museum work.
Garden and maintenance:
After the rain the gardens and lawns are looking great with the trees and shrubs putting on new growth.
